(NOVEMBER 19, 2018—Long Beach Township, NJ) The NJ Shore Rentals Coalition is a step closer in its mission to correct New Jersey’s new tax on short-term rentals that vacationers to the Jersey Shore are now being forced to pay.  After earning the official 501(c)(6) NJ non-profit corporation status, NJ Shore Rentals Coalition immediately hired prominent public policy advocacy group Pizzutillo Public Affairs, LLC to lead efforts with lawmakers in Trenton.

“Thousands of shore rental home owners have been successful in the phone call campaign to New Jersey lawmakers voicing anger toward this short-term rental tax.  The NJ Shore Rentals Coalition has taken the legal steps necessary to tackle Trenton and added the highly regard Pizzutillo Public Affairs to our team,” said Denise Payne, President of the NJ Shore Rental Coalition and owner of a vacation rental home in Beach Haven. “New Jersey is a state of 120 Legislators.  Approximately 10,000 bills are introduced annually.  Adding an expert in public policy who has access and can be face to face with the key legislators in NJ just enhances our impact in correcting this new tax before the New Jersey shore tourism economy is negatively impacted next summer.”

Currently, there is an effort underway to correct the existing legislation in order to exempt shore rentals from the tax. To date, identical bills have been introduced in the NJ Assembly (Bill A4520) and the NJ Senate (S3133) and both bills have been referred to committee. The Coalition’s goal is to have these bills placed on their committee agendas for a vote on December 3rd.

CALLING NEW JERSEY SHORE RENTAL HOME OWNERS:  All New Jersey shore rental owners are needed for this coalition to have an impact and are encouraged to continue making phone calls to New Jersey lawmakers.  As the Coalition identifies which lawmakers need to hear from shore rental home owners, the Coalition will alert you via our social media sites.

BACKGROUND: NJ Shore Rentals Coalition launched this fall when a group of New Jersey shore rental home owners were blindsided by the new short-term rental tax that became law on October 1st, 2018. The new law requires all short-term rental property owners who book directly with renters to collect a 11.625%-13.625% tax from vacationers which will undoubtedly have a negative impact on the economy of the Jersey Shore.
